About the F Lab 

I started this blog during my first year at university as a way of documenting my daily style experiments. This constant search for discovery and new inspiration has been the drive of this blog all along, and when I developed it into something I wanted to share with an audience, it was only fitting to honour this playful spirit by calling it The F Lab.

The 'F' stands for fashion and food, two of the things I like playing with the most... My experiments may not always be successful, but there are always new things to discover -and fun to be had.

I like to believe that creativity is more about resourcefulness than it is about resources. As I navigate the opulent -sometimes extravagant- worlds of fashion and food, I like to focus on accessible luxury -the one you create for yourself. 

I may drool over expensive handbags or talk about shopping, but at the end of the day my experiments in this fashion "lab" are about being imaginative with what's available to me, creating something I love, or finding ways to reinvent things. That, to me, is what luxury is about. 

The same goes for my take on food. Luxury on my plate is not about how time-consuming a meal was or how many unpronounceable ingredients it contains. It's about being able to enjoy fresh food that's good for both body and soul. It's the luxury of being able to cook for yourself, but also of having time to do other things besides obsess with food. Luxury is learning that good food can be affordable, and it's the pleasure in coming up with a new, unexpected combination out of the random ingredients in your fridge instead of ordering takeout. 

The F Lab started as a personal diary and has become an expression outlet, a platform for sharing, a set of training wheels for skills I never thought I would learn, a weekend obsession and hopefully a place of honest inspiration for my readers.

About the URL

I'm based in The Netherlands and it has become a second home for me, so this line from one of my favourite songs by The Dire Straits seemed perfect when I started out this blog... I changed the name of the blog since, but the URL is still a tribute to its beginning.

About me

Besides The F Lab, I like to write as much as possible (check out my portfolio here). I just graduated with a Cultural Analysis MA and I love film, philosophy, literature, and fashion. I spend most of my time daydreaming.
