One

image

Woke up just in time for afternoon tea yesterday and slipped on my easy, slinky Zara maxi dress. Just one piece of clothing: no effort, no matching, no layering. Then tonight I dressed it up a little with some makeup:image

And that is how you dress when you don’t have to leave the dorms!

Friday Double D

image

shirt: men’s massimo dutti (dad’s), jeans: weekday

Like any self-respecting fashionista will tell you, the rule when wearing denim on denim is that you can’t go matchy matchy -a rule I have sort of broken before, without looking like Anna dello Russo, mind you!- so I combined my baggy, light denim shirt with my black skinny jeans and voila! An easy outfit on the boyish side- compensated by platform booties (which you can’t see because I rearranged my furniture and now I can’t photograph my feet), and a LOT of rings. No pile items today… No time for makeup either but I was OK with that ;)

In other news, my italian friend made pizza so good i didn’t have time to photograph it before it was devoured!

Pop of Neon from The Pile

image

high waisted skinnies: Weekday, top: Intimissimi?, sweater: american vintage, jacket: my mom’s, really old

Yesterday was one of those days where you have to have an entire argument with yourself just to get out of bed and go to class- which basically resulted in very limited time to get ready. I did grab an item from the pile (the neon green/yellow top that’s peeking under my sweater), so kudos to me for that, but I had no time to deal with my bad hair etc. Only when I got home from my lecture did I add the jacket and tie my hair into a side knot ponytail (fresh off the internet!). Some days, due to my laziness in the mornings mostly, my look just keeps evolving during the day.

Issues with this top: It’s synthetic (yuck!), I wouldn’t normally wear it on its own (i.e. in its full neon glory) and most importantly: It’s so short, and it keeps riding up! I don’t know if it’ll make the cut…

Next time I’ll try to take a picture of the rings I wear, and other details, and maybe I’ll be really brave and show my face, too -when I actually do my makeup that is ;)

When COS is having a half-off sale and you spot these beauties, how can you stick to your student budget and resist temptation?…

The Pile and Outfit #1

image

I got sick of having a too-full clothes rack and decided -in the spur of the moment, as usual!- to take apart the clothes that I rarely/never wear . The problem is that these clothes are now permanently squatting the chair next to the clothes rack, forming The Pile.

It’s kind of imposing, really, because it’s a daily reminder of the sorting-out that I need (and without fail, avoid every day) to do. I’m not the type of person that can bear to part with clothes, especially clothes that I like but cannot bring myself to wear on a regular basis (for practical reasons, because I don’t like them on my body at the moment, because they’re too revealing/flashy for me…). And so for the time being, I’m in the process of trying to incorporate at least one item from The Pile in my look every day, and hopefully by the end I’ll face reality -which clothes are wearable, which clothes I need to part with- but also get to be a little more daring in my day-to-day dressing.

And to monitor my progress just for the sake of it, I will be documenting my outfits (with or without Pile items)!

I noticed that I wasn’t wearing my grey pencil miniskirt from H&M, even though it is relatively new. I paired it with my new khaki Zara shirt (and a thin sweater underneath- it is the winter after all, and I tend to get cold even indoors these days!), wedge ankle boots from H&M and opaque black tights (the general rule of thumb for tights is the shorter the skirt, the thicker the tights). I was really happy with how I looked, but this skirt, for me, is very limiting -although not obscenely short-: it rides up when you sit down, forces you to keep your legs crossed and makes biking without completely losing face impossible (I biked to the shops wearing it- let’s just say it was a good thing I was wearing a long coat! ^^)

Added a colourful scarf and nonchalantly draped my coat around my shoulders to take out my trash- it doesn’t get any more glamourous than that!

Mijn leven

The best part of having a decent phone (finally!) : being able to instantly record all the beautiful details in everyday life and to share them :)

Welcome to my life. I can’t tell you what exactly I will be posting here, or how regularly- let’s continue experimenting.
